Dear Colleagues,
Worldwide, assisted suicide and other forms of supporting subjects to end their lives belong to the most controversial issues discussed in the medical community.
Of course, these issues are of particular importance for psychiatry, because in our speciality suicidal ideation is a common phenomenon, frequently associated with impaired decisional capacity.
To enable a discussion of these issues in an open and data based fashion, the EPA Committee on Ethics, supported by the EPA Board, would like to compile information on the actual legal situation in the countries of all member Associations.
To this end we have developed a very short questionnaire which will not take more than 5-10 minutes of your time.
An important question will be, whether you can bring us into contact with a person particularly knowledgeable on these issues in your country.
Here is the link to the survey: European Survey on Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia
To be able to present results already at the upcoming EPA congress in Prague we would kindly ask you to answer before 15th August, 2025.
If you have any question on the survey, please do not hesitate to contact Prof. Thomas Pollmächer (Thomas.pollmaecher@klinikum-ingolstadt.de)
Kind regards and many thanks for your cooperation.
