A csontritkulás napjainkban már nem csak a betegek problémája, hanem gyakorisága és költségei miatt elsőrendű gazdasági és társadalmi kérdés is. Magyarországon ma becslések szerint a népesség tizede, mintegy 900 ezer ember szenved oszteoporózisban, de csak a combnyaktörés szövődményeinek következtében évente 5-6 ezer ember hal meg. Ha odafigyelünk, a csontritkulás már korai stádiumban felismerhető és kezelhető, így a törések nagy része megelőzhető. A csontritkulás esetében nem a betegség gyógyításának a költségén kell takarékoskodni, hanem azt befektetésnek kell tekinteni, melynek haszna a csökkenő számú törésekben és annak gazdasági költségvonzataiban mutatkozik meg. Az e téren tett erőfeszítések egyedülálló eredményeket hoztak hazánkban.

Megdöbbentő új reprezentatív adatok a hazai D-vitamin ellátottság alacsony szintjéről
A D-vitamin anyagcseréje egyedülálló az emberi szervezetben. Hatása szerteágazó, szinte minden szervrendszerben érvényesül. Hiánya az egyik legnagyobb egészségügyi probléma a civilizált világban. A probléma megoldása széles körű összefogást sürget.
Ez év áprilisban a hazai lakosságot reprezentáló körben széles körű felmérés történt a lakosság D-vitamin ellátottságáról. Ezt a felmérést - több más mellett - a Magyar Osteoporosis és Osteoarthrológiai Társaság (MOOT) támogatásával és együttműködésével a Semmelweis Egyetem I. sz. Belklinikán működő munkacsoport és a Magyar Primer Prevenciós Orvos Egyesület irányításával zajlott le.
A hazai lakosságot reprezentáló vizsgálati anyagból kiderült, hogy tél végére a magyar lakosság minden ötödik tagjánál súlyos D-vitamin hiány állapot mutatható ki (25(OH)D-vitamin szint <10 ng/ml 21,6%), de az ideális vérszintet (>30ng/ml) is csak mindössze 6%-ban lehetett igazolni. Ezek szerint a lakosság 94%-ában - további egészségügyi problémák megelőzésére - D-vitamin pótlásra szorul.
Felismerve ezek fontosságát és a sürgető feladatokat, a D-vitaminhiány következményeivel küzdő legnagyobb magyarországi orvostársaságok közös konszenzust dolgoztak ki, illetve 2013. szeptember 21-én a legújabb szakmai adatokkal frissített formában tudományos programra került sor a D-vitaminhiány jelentőségéről, felismerési lehetőségeiről, a prevenció és a kezelés javasolt módjairól. A társaságok szakmai irányelvei mellett ennek a konszenzusnak az eredménye iránymutatást ad a gyakorló orvosoknak a D-vitaminhiány megelőzéséhez és kezeléséhez. Emellett szeretné ráirányítani a szakmai döntéshozók és a laikus közönség figyelmét a probléma fontosságára.
A MOOT szeretné elismerni az írott, vagy az elektronikus média azon képviselőjét, aki a csontritkulásban szenvedő betegek és a Társaság érdekében tevékenykedik. A kétévente kiadásra kerülő díjat néhai Dr. Bossányi Adáról neveztük el, aki szakmai munkája és igen aktív tevékenysége meghatározta a hazai osteoporosis szakmát és a betegellátásban elért vívmányokat, többek között a betegklubok megalakulását. A díj ünnepélyes első meghirdetésére sajtótájékoztatónkon kerül sor.
